To see a wild Hoselink Retractable Reel, you need to go on safari in their native homeland of Australia.

Hoselink Reels like to hang out in a variety of gardens and usually form a symbiotic relationship with the nearest tap. Although they're solitary creatures, they're not territorial, multiple reels can live in different areas of the same garden quite happily.

There are 5 breeds of reel 15m, 20m, 25m and 30m which have a 12mm diameter hose and the Hi-Flow Retractable Reel which has a 14mm diameter 25m hose. The Hi-Flow Reel is exceptionally well suited to gardens with low water pressure.

They can be found hanging from walls, posts, rock face and occasionally a handy human makes them a homemade hide. It is possible for a single reel to have multiple homes within one garden or to have a second home in the front or back garden. This is achieved by the installation of a second bracket.

Whilst the harsh environment of Australia is no bother to the hardy reels, with their UV stabilised protective casing, additional weather protection can be offered to a reel by dressing it in a cover. The cover also can help the reel to stand out or blend into it's surrounding environments depending on location and preference.

Each reel has a distinctive personality, some prefer to live nestled amongst the foliage of the garden.

Whilst others love to be out in the open. For those reels on full display it is possible for a padlock to be fitted to prevent them from being preyed upon by passing predators.

Spotted in the local area

Handy humans have been known to build hides for shy reels on full display, which can bring comfort to a timid reel, scared of becoming prey.

The Hoselink Retractable Reel has evolved and adapted to suit the varied landscape of rural and urban Australia.

Attaching to many solid platforms such as wood, rock or brick, the reels are extremely versatile.

They are generally not fussy in their positioning but they do prefer to be mounted between waist and chest height in order to provide the smoothest and easiest operation possible.

Getting in the way is something the reels definitely do not like to be doing, the smooth rotation on the bracket makes it easy for them to be tucked to one side out of the way of other garden members.

Citizens of the US have reported sightings of these wonderful critters in their gardens with more and more reports coming in each day. The US reels have adaptations allowing them to connect freely with US garden taps.

The Hoselink Retractable Reel is a delightful garden creature, which is happy to call any garden home. If you need to water the plants, wash the car or top up the animal water bowls without getting drenched or starting a fight with your hose then this is the one for you.
